“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22).
I was watching a three-year-old boy interacting with some of the brethren as they left church. He was totally uninhibited. He asked them their names and ages, he enquired about their grandchildren (whether they had any, or not), and questioned them about their intended destinations. He rolled around on the front steps while he challenged one of the guys to identify the gender of the silly names he was making up on the spot—I’m not sure if his 30 year old opponent won or lost that game.Seeing life through the eyes of a three year is pure joy. That is the carefree spirit that Jesus calls all Christians to enjoy in his Kingdom. It is the anxiety-free existence that Jesus promises his followers if they just have faith in him. God has blessed us with body, soul, and spirit. Sickness of one part affects all parts. Gone are the days where hospitals were staffed with grim-faced matrons who enforced tight visiting hours. Working to return the patient to the people and places that give them daily hope and purpose is now considered a part of the healing process. How much more the Christian? When our hearts are full of the joy brought by the knowledge and wisdom of the Lord, our bodies are invigorated unto good works.A broken spirit makes the body and mind weary. Many hours and days are spent ‘feeling bad.’ Worse still is when sin drives us into sorrow and wretchedness—sin has this affect by its nature. But our spirits are lifted in confession and repentance. Then we are again fit for the work of the Lord.It pays to call Dr Jesus. He will always be: The Great Physician!John StaigerIf you have been blessed by this message, please feel free to: Like, Comment or Share it with your friends.
