Sadly, problems passing from one generation to the next is nothing new. Poverty, disease, ignorance, violence, and war are but a few that perpetually rain down around us.During miserable times one generation looks back on the last and says: “Our parents did things they shouldn’t have done,And we have to live with the consequences.”It is common for people to talk about “The Sins of the Fathers.” And, yes, scripture says that the consequences will pass down through the generations, unless it is stopped.Wishing the misery of intergenerational sin away only makes it worse; as does sitting around philosophising about it. The cycle is broken only by change—and repentance is change! Christ has transformed the world. He invites everyone: ‘Take up your cross and follow me’ (Mt.16:24). Therein are the blessings of a life with eternal meaning. Children may have little choice but to suffer the physical consequences of their forebears, but they don’t have to suffer the spiritual consequences.Jesus bides them to come to him to receive ‘Life, and Life abundantly’ (Jn.10:10).As for those who persist in their sin – Jeremiah clarifies in the following verse:“Instead, everyone will die for their own sin; whoever eats sour grapes—their own teeth will be set on edge” (Jer.31:30).John StaigerIf you have been blessed by this message, please feel free to: Like, Comment or Share it with your friends.
