”Everyone loves a good motivational speech. It’s a feel-good experience that you can take home and build on. I highly recommend them, and I wish I was better at presenting them myself. The King James Version made this verse legendary amongst motivational speakers of old. They used it to inject scriptural authority into their speeches on the ‘vital need for a man to have vision.’ You can hear them proclaim, with the power and conviction of an Old Testament Prophet:‘As the Good Book says: “Where there is no vision, the people perish!”No doubt, we agree with the spirit of what these speakers have stated, but (and not trying to demotivate anyone), this particular Bible verse has nothing to do with that kind of ‘vision.’ To be honest with you, Elijah and Elisha would probably right off as “idolatrous” the secular ‘goals and aspirations’ that people call their ‘visions for life.’ Walking with God is all that mattered to them.Our writer is stating a well-know, but little spoken, truth: ‘When God’s word ceases to be preached, and the people cease to care, they go crazy with sin. A better translation is:“Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;But happy is he who keeps the law.”Write this down:“When our preachers in the Lord’s church stop preaching repentance, they stop preaching Christ.
