Proverbs 27:12 “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty”

Proverbs 27:12 “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty”

My favourite story about the ‘triumph-of-the-common-man’ comes out of India. In recent years the Indian government, wanting to move its citizens closer to a cashless society, arbitrarily replaced the larger banknotes with new ones. But worse was that they put an automatic use-by date on to old ones. Old banknotes had to be spent or deposited into a bank account and new ones issued. If held on to, they became glorified monopoly money. Since many Indians preferred to store their own cash ‘privately,’ the government of the day was convinced that all those billions of rupees ‘hidden under the mattresses’ would suddenly appear and be deposited into bank accounts; closer to their watchful eye. You have to wonder if the politician in charge was very young or new to the country. It just didn’t happen. The good citizens of India simply took their old banknotes, paid their bills, legally traded it through their family businesses, bought essential items and…you guessed it—privately stored the new notes. Nothing changed!Being prudent is also an essential mark of a Christian. Jesus told his disciples to learn from the Shrewd Manager (Lk.16). The people of this world advance their causes with industry and cunning. But Christians often miss opportunities to advance the Kingdom of God. The tools of Faith are: Prayer, time, knowledge, encouragement, and sharing material blessings where needed. The prudent Christian seeks to leave no scene unimproved. The Prudent Christ knows that Satan is ever destroying the good. Because he is wise, he takes refuge in the Lord.“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty” (Proverbs 27:12).John StaigerIf you have been blessed by this message, please feel free to: Like, Comment or Share it with your friends.
