“Sense of Duty.”

“Sense of Duty.”

I have always admired the commitment of soldiers. Understanding that when the need arises, they volunteer to place themselves in harm’s way. My father’s experience in WWII left him proud to have done his duty. But it came at great personal sacrifice. He was silenced by the experience, except for a number of good-memory stories he enjoyed telling. Duty costs! Duty is not dead. It may be misplaced and confused, but it still beats within the heart of man. Self-preservation may be the chief motivator for some to stand up for their own, however, 2000 years of preaching on the blood of Christ has sunk deep into the fabric of society. I refuse to be discouraged by the talk of “The diminishing commitment to anything decent these days.”My own generation may not have had much to say that was worth hearing, but I’m not writing off present and future generations because of our unresolved issues.I believe revival is in the air. And I call all my brothers and sisters to arms.Arm yourselves with the Sword of the Spirit—The Word of God.Upskill yourself on the plan of salvation—Book, chapter, and verse.Learn to debate doctrinal differences in the nicest possible ways—Be ready to give a defense. Call the sinner to repent before our merciful Saviour, before it’s too late—There is a Great Day coming.Walk in a manner worthy of the truth—Faith and good works are powerful testimonies of your transformed life. The apostle Paul insisted that he had a duty to everyone, and that he was eager to preach. His duty and zeal were centred in this one thing: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16).Duty has this in common with discouragement—it is infectious. Come before God. Get on bended knee. Repent of your slackness. Surrender your life to His will. And go forth in courage. We owe it to our Saviour—Its our blessed Duty.John StaigerIf you have been blessed by this message, please feel free to: Like, Comment or Share it with your friends. (312)
