When you are young, life is forever. ‘Today’ is the launching pad for an endless number of tomorrows. And praise the Lord, this is how it should be!
Growing up, it is natural to look around at all the things you don’t have and to want them. When these desires mature and are put in context, they spur you on to better things—good things will happen. For the Christian, ‘To have is to share,’ and to share the proceeds of a life lived for Jesus is surly among the best blessings this side of heaven.
I am not going to act as if life doesn’t take dark turns—it does! I was surprised to see graphic photographs of traffic accidents on Facebook. I dear not describe them, and I would prefer that I had never seen them. My heart broke for the loved ones who had suffered loss. Those were days of great mourning, and no joy would have been heard.
Through the joys and tragedies of life “we walk by faith, not by sight.” Ours is not a faith confined to wishful thinking, but one anchored in a divine miracle. A miracle confirmed in history that took place 2000 years ago in Israel—Jesus Christ rose from the dead. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead has brought us to life. That is why we can say with Nehemiah, “The joy of the Lord is our strength.”
With eyes fixed on the heavenly prize, be we young or old, we wake to a new day and cry:
“This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psa.118:24).
