Jesus not only told us to pray, “Thy will be done” (Mt.6:10), he also told us “that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us” (1Jn.5:14).
Think about it! If our prayers are centred on asking for things in line with the will of God, “we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him” (1Jn.5:15).
Which begs the question: “Why do we waste so much time and effort praying for things outside of the will of God?” They are guaranteed to fall on deaf ears.
Are my desires, even with the best of motives, a better guide than the will of God? Never! Moreover, if God were to esteem my wishes above His will (praise God that that will never happen), I would become a danger to all things good. Thus, I thank God that all those prayers never got past the ceiling.
The will of God is vast and beyond comprehension.
If we limit our prayers to the mundane, we become victims in the spiritual war that rages around us. It is God’s will that all His children take their place in the battles set before them.
You must pray according to His will:
*It is God’s will that you know His will—Ask and he will teach you that wisdom from His Word.
*It is God’s will that you know Jesus—Ask and He will make Him known.
*It is God’s will that you walk in the Spirit—Ask and He will guide you.
*It is God’s will that you wear the full armour of God—Ask and He will fit you for battle against sin and temptation.
*It is God’s will that you preach the gospel to all creation—Ask and He will teach you as you go.
*It is God’s will that you love others as He loves you—Ask and He will show you how.
*It is God’s will that you are holy—Ask and He will purify you.
*It is God’s will that you enjoy His promises—Ask and He will reveal them to you.
*It is God’s will that you put His Kingdom first—Ask and He will open the eyes of your heart to see its power and glory.
“For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened” (Mt.7:8)
