The most important advice that you will give a person is that they be very careful of the master they choose. For he who rules the heart, is he who sets its course. Jesus put it best:
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth” (Matthew 6:24).
Your body, soul and spirit can only travel in one direction. The final destination will be either glory or ignominy; that’s heaven or hell—one or the other!
Many will insist that money is not their master and that it is only a tool that is under their complete control. History, of course, is awash with stories of men who have built financial empires only to be crushed under them. Such are the vicissitudes of worldly wealth.
To their shame, some believers treat God-like “The Banker” in their Real-life-Christianized-Monopoly-Game. However, the thought that He would possibly agree to sit quietly while they move along—juggling money and morals alike—is insulting, to say the least.
The concept of “equal command authority” has no place in the Household of God. God does not wait for anyone’s input before deciding the best course to take. The church may experiment with rule-by-committee, but God operates as Sole Commander. Thus, He expects that each one of us seeks His will and wisdom as servants of that will and wisdom.
Christians can be assured that God is their Master when they treat Satan—the wannabe master—as Jesus treated him. When we are tempted to sell out to the authority of the devil, we must, with Jesus, tell him exactly where our loyalties lie:
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God,’…‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’…‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only” (Matthew 4).
One soul in the hands of The One Master is a very good idea!
