Do you remember the days when church bulletins were mailed out to other congregations? You could find them pinned to noticeboards and considered mines of information from far away places.
In the earliest days of my preaching, I was looking at a church newsletter when an old sister stood beside me and said, “Anyone who bothers to read the articles in those things obviously has nothing better to do.” Her message probably was nothing personal, and if it was meant to be, I needn’t have cared – I had yet to have written as much as a single church bulletin article and had no immediate plans to do so.
Before I had penned the first in this series of 1000 articles, I doubt that I had written as many as 10 and probably had read even fewer than that.
For all of you who have encouraged me along the way I owe you a great debt of gratitude. If you had asked me before I started whether I could have ever penned 1000 articles of no less than 300 words each, I would have said, “An article every now and again will probably be my limit.”
Lord willing, I will continue to produce an article each day into the future. Although it does mean that other projects will have to remain unwritten, but that may yet prove providential.
These articles were designed to encourage us all while under lockdown. Upliftment of the soul remains the goal, but I pray that my words can also encourage us to crush underfoot all that keeps us from putting the church first in our lives.
Helping each other get to heaven is all that matters. If my articles help you and others on that journey, praise the Lord! Please feel free to use them in any way that might be a blessing.
“For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2).
