Advice#3 “Friends…”Nothing seems to feel better than a good friendship,

…and nothing seems to feel worse than one that has gone bad. Friendships are founded on love, respect and trust. Built on that is a mutually constructed framework of experiences. We enjoy the good and endure the bad. When dumb things are said or done, and feelings are hurt, we fix it and we continue to build. Sometimes we forget that it is by nature a process of trial and error. In my youth my friends were my First-Responders to my crises. Now that I am a man, I can proudly say that some of those same friends are still there for me.My desire is to grow in the Spirit, so I am ever seeking friends who walk in the Holy Spirit. That is where I can collect spiritual advice for my earthly walk. It is often gleaned from their life-experiences. Stories of victory over the devil. But also, times of heat-breaking sorrow. Job would have appreciated some comforting words from his friends. One crisis had followed another. He was in a bad way. The advice offered by his friends may have had value if it had been appropriate. But even then, who wants to be told to repent by your three holier-than-thou friends and a young know-it-all?Unless I know the person well, I try not to give advice – even when asked. I will happily speak about my experiences or the experiences of others. If it is a matter of right and wrong, then I must let the scripture speak directly into the subject. It is wise to count your words when both seeking advice and giving it. Things can go terribly wrong for all where bad advice is given, or taken. The best news is that Jesus is your best friend. he is always there for you. If you want his advice, just open your Bible and start reading. There is none better.John StaigerPlease feel free to Share (350)
