The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1).
Go online and watch atheists railing against the existence of God—they are fearless!
It is not for nothing that scripture insists: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7).
Those humbled by God’s grace wonder at the unbeliever’s lack of fear. But it should not surprise us when a man deceives himself into thinking that there is no God above himself. For such is the reasoning of everyone who rejects God’s Sovereignty over them. Like Pharoah, fearless in his rebellion, the unbeliever stands tall in his pride…until! Until he either repents, or, like Pharoah, is destroyed.
Too many times Christians melt before the supposed knowledge of the sceptic. Admittedly, it is difficult to keep up with the ever-growing mountain of data used to deny something that the atheist insists doesn’t exist.
The believer is wise to note the predictable concluding point of the atheist when debating a believer. He always accuses the “Christian God of love” of “unloving behaviour.” I have yet to hear the believer in the debate ask the atheist: “Why should it matter to you what the Christian believes if, as you say, God does not exist? And because a non-existent God cannot be held responsible for any evils attributed to him, how should we blame for the evil, and, for that matter, thank for the good?
The Bible informs us of our origin, destination, and that which we need to negotiate everything in between. The questions in the spirit of man are answered for those seeking knowledge, and the mysteries of the Lord revealed to those seeking insight.
Such knowledge and insight makes the godly fearless, but…
“Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight” (Isaiah 5:21).
