She was tall, thin, and appeared to be about 50 years of age. It was before 6 o’clock in the morning and still dark and cold when she walked past me and the dog. She was walking barefoot on the road wearing pyjama pants (dirty and tattered at the feet), a wind jacket and a sports cap. Stony faced and staring straight ahead she passed us as if she were the only person on earth. My son suggested that her problem may be illicit drugs, but it could just as easily be the result of prescription drugs, alcohol, or an unstable mind. I can only pray that she gets whatever help that she needs.
By God’s design, the mind is the control centre of our reality; the clearer our mind, the clearer our reality.
Jesus speaks of a person’s ability to discern what is going on around them when he says:
“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” (Matthew 6:22-23).
When you seek to know God, His light illuminates your heart, soul, and mind. The worldly wisdom that has fueled your sinful behaviour is exposed as ungodly and destructive by the Light of Christ as it floods in. You now walk in the Light.
The spiritually blind do not believe that they are blind. In fact, they are the first to report that they have exclusive insights into the mysteries of the ages. Such dark minds hold nothing as being sacred but their own anti-Christian sentiments. Their darkness is their only source of light.
You are the light of the world because Christ shines on you:
“But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light” (Ephesians 5:13).
