The idea that you can chose the church of your liking is a popular one.
Even in the Lord’s church there are some who speak of denominations as if they are a legitimate extension of God’s Kingdom. They are not! It amazes me when some of these same brethren become incredulous when members leave their congregation and go off to join those denominations. What do they expect?If the congregation that you are worshipping with is not “The Lord’s Church” you have two options: Change it or leave it! You say, “John, that is easier said than done. There is not another member of the church of Christ within 200 miles of this place.”
I am not suggesting that it is easy to change denominational beliefs or to leave them. I am saying that the goal is that they be saved and living by New Testament TRUTH. You start with that which is in front of you. If God has put into your hands the souls of friends and neighbours who are following non-Biblical practices, He expects you to teach the TRUTH. Honest hearts will not follow you they will follow the TRUTH.
Don’t underestimate God. He blesses His own with strength and wisdom to carry out his will. You can become that Christian of strong faith and conviction.
Don’t worry too much about style and technique. What matters is that TRUTH is the content of your convictions. It is the Word of God, the Gospel, that convicts hearts and minds, and transforms nations. Speak the TRUTH in love and watch it do God’s work:Isaiah 55:11—“So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire.”
